This is such an interesting part of the marching season.  The show is coming together and by many standards is an entertaining and polished production, but show videos and full pictures just can't be shared yet.  The band can reveal information about two great early season performances.  Over the past two Friday nights, the lake community witnessed how a high school marching show evolves.  The first Friday, the band played two movements.  This last Friday, the band revealed four movements and brought out the color guard outfits as well as some sassy choreography in movement three.  In two weeks, the band will play all five movements, add to the props, and include body movement that has not yet been seen.

What’s with this surprise element surrounding a band’s marching show?  Why haven’t pictures of the guard and the props and actual video of the band’s performance been released publicly?  Many high school marching bands build momentum up through the first competition by keeping much of the show private.   High school bands keep shows private to enhance the intensity of production during the critical artistic, athletic, and musical push at the beginning of the season.  Just as a Broadway play would never send out videos of rehearsals prior to opening night, the Pride of the Lake Marching Band will maintain a hushed excitement over social media.  Two options are available for show preview prior to the first competition:

1.  Come to the annual Ice Cream Social - Night Rehearsal on Thursday, September 7th at the practice football field next to Camdenton High School.  The band invites middle school band students, band sponsors, and all community members to attend this rehearsal.  You will be impressed by the level of intensity displayed during a marching band rehearsal.

2.  Come to the next Laker football game at Bob Shore Stadium where the football team will take on Kickapoo High School in what is certain to be a great football game.  On Friday, September 8th during the half time performance, The Pride of the Lake Marching Band will play all five movements of the 2017 show, a show that has already created a buzz of excitement during half time performances.

Once the band competes at Powder Springs Georgia's Bands of America Regional  on Saturday, September 16th,  the band can make show improvements and changes based on fan and judge responses.  Then the band can share performance video and full pictures of the show while the students continue a process of problem solving, perseverance, team work, and team/personal growth through the changes they make based on constructive criticism.  Developing a high school marching band show certainly teaches numerous life-long skills.
