I guess that's what makes it so special, right?
The fact that it doesn't last forever. How tomorrow becomes yesterday and all too quickly you find yourself wondering where the time went. The faces, the sounds of laughter, the cheering; it will soon become faded memories concealed within photographs and 10 second snapchat videos. Because when you're a 14 year old Freshman, "one more time" doesn't literally mean "one more time". It isn't until this moment as an 18 year old Senior that you come to appreciate the bittersweet emotions bottled up with this phrase. I know it's so cliche to say that through band I've met lifelong friends, but I'm going to say it anyway, because it's true. You get to know these people better than anyone else, and I can't even begin to describe the inside jokes and the amount of times I've laughed because of them. I will forever cherish the times I've spent with them. Having my family involved is such a great thing. Being able to look forward and see Mason and my dad at the sound board makes me smile. Seeing Brody throughout the show makes me so proud. He works so hard and I love sharing this experience with him. After every performance, I find both my brothers and I give them a pat on the back or a hug. I absolutely love being able to share my love for marching band with them. These four years have been unforgettable. My Freshman year was the first time we ever made finals at a BOA Regional. I remember everyone was crying, and I was sitting there wondering, "wait, what happened?". My Junior year we won first in our class and it was also the first time our name was announced at the BOA Super Regional in St.Louis. That was an amazing experience. Even though this last weekend didn't go as planned, that doesn't make me any less excited for the rest of this season. Clarksville this year reminded me of what it's all about. Being able to meet these incredibly talented bands from across the country is something that I always look forward to. Band kids are the best kids, because even though we're competing against one other, we still introduce ourselves, congratulate each other, and laugh together. I think I laughed more this weekend than I have in a very long time. I also worked harder than I ever have before. So, when it's all over, I'll try my best to be anything but sad. I am grateful to have been given something that will make saying goodbye so hard. I am grateful for the late nights and the early mornings, for they have given me the chance to watch the sunset and the sunrise. I am grateful for the abundance of food, long bus rides, smelly plumes, sweaty hands, stadium lights, singing along to the radio, secret handshakes, drumming on the back of bus seats, and the people. I am so grateful for the people. I'm not ready for it to be the last time, but I couldn't have asked for a better four years. Because of them I have friends who have become like family and an everlasting home away from home.
