It’s time for full band camp.  The progression toward a new marching season happens surprisingly fast. Each marching season ends with emotions ranging from sadness that there won’t be one more show to excitement that 6:30 am practices are over and that pep, jazz, and concert bands will soon begin.  As soon as one marching season ends, show design for the next season begins.  Band boosters and students wait with anticipation for the show reveal in April.  The school year ends, and marching season continues to feel like a far-off dream.  Mini-camps and sectionals begin to take place over the summer while band boosters construct show props.  Just as suddenly as the last marching season ends, the next season begins.

Students - gather up your sunscreen, tank tops, tennis shoes, dot books, water bottles, instruments, and music.  Boosters - finalize band camp donations, organize the snacks, and get ready to support the band with band-aids, cool towels, buckets of water, and band booster love.  Staff -  leave your short summer vacations, and get to work.  Get to work on a physical, mental, musical, academic activity that is hard to fully understand if you haven’t lived it as a student, booster, or music educator.

In the coming weeks of full day, early morning, and late-night rehearsals, the following will happen:  movement drills, push-ups, breathing gym, flag and dance precision, horn holding, marching drill-down, prop completion, running, “one more time”, uniform fitting, and music/music/music.  This is a special time of year for the band, and the Camdenton Band would like to invite everyone in the lake community to enjoy the process:
  1.  Come to a night rehearsal.  The entire lake community is invited to an ice cream social at our Thursday, September 7th night rehearsal from 6 pm-9 pm at the practice field at Camdenton High School.  Additional Thursday night rehearsals and mid-season Saturday camp dates are on the Calendar section of this website.  The community is always invited.
  2. Enjoy a half-time show at one of Camdenton’s five home football games.  The band is looking forward to cheering on a strong Camdenton Laker Football team against these schools on the following Fridays at 7 pm:  Hillcrest 8/18, West Plains 8/25, Kickapoo 9/8, Rolla 9/22, and Glendale 10/13.
  3. Travel to a competition.  Three competitions are within the state of Missouri:  Golden Regiment Invitational at Blue Springs High School on Saturday, September 30.  Ozarko Showband Festival at Missouri State University in Springfield on Saturday, October 7.  Bands of America St. Louis Super Regional at the America’s Dome on Friday, October 20.  BOA Powder Springs, GA Regional is the start of the competition season on Saturday, September 16.
Let’s do this!  Let’s get ready to perform a great show, with a great band, for a great community.
